3rd quarter post Thursday 3/20/14 "Oxygen Dissociation Curve"

Nice job on your comments on last weeks blog on diabetes.  This week in AP Biology we have been talking about homeostasis in the respiratory / circulatory system.  As I said in class the CollegeBoard likes this topic on the Bohr affect and oxygen dissociation curves.  Below is a link to a short summary of the concept.  Please read the summary.  As this is a "read only" assignment, to get credit for  this weeks blog post answer this unrelated question. What animal would you like to be for a day and why?

Here is mine:  I would like to be a humming bird, because I am sick of winter and would like to flick from flower to flower and drink up the spring.

  2. I would like to be a manatee for a day because they just float around and relax all the time and just overall look really happy. Plus they live in a warm climate which I would do anything to be in right now.

  3. I would be a giraffe because they are wicked tall, they are very sociable, and their spot patterns are never the same as another giraffe!

  4. I would be a wild horse so I could explore the varying landscapes of majestic locations such as Yellowstone.

    1. Such a beautiful description Christopher. You seem highly connected with the horse.

    2. I bet you could explore all kinds of mountainous terrain with those strong muscles as a beautiful horse, Chris.

I have always been fascinated by marine creatures, so I would be a dolphin to explore the ocean.

  6. I would be sugar glider so that I could glide around from tree to tree. I would also be very adept at climbing tall structures, and I would be a marsupial. Even though I would look somewhat like a squirrel, I would be only very distantly related to them, and I would be much smarter and better.

  7. I would be a falcon so that I could fly and be at the top of the food chain so I wouldn't have to worry about predators.

  8. Being able to become a tiger cub with my entire tiger life ahead of me would be my ultimate animal dream. To be able to learn and hunt with my tiger father and mother would be a wonderful coming of age experience and nothing would be able to satisfy my tiger-thirst for meat.

    1. You really put us in the "tiger zone" with this one, Timmy. Excellent work!

    2. Except, tigers aren't one of the social cats, so your father would abandon you...

  9. Although it may be cold, I would be a penguin so I could slide around the ice caps and swim as well.

  10. I would be a dolphin because they are one of the world's most intelligent animals, have few natural predators, and have an extensive "culture" to call their own.

    1. Matt, we were talking about this in class, way to steal my animal. Anyways, I also would be a dolphin because they are really friendly animals. I also think it's cool how they are mammals, but live in the ocean. Finally, dolphins are similar to me because they can do flips.

  11. I would be an African elephant because I love elephants. I want to know what it'd feel like to use a trunk to eat and drink.

  12. I'd choose to be a Peregrine falcon so I could glide effortlessly for thousands of miles, explore and experience the thrill of a 200+ mph dive!

  13. I would be a seagull... you get to hang out at the beach all day and people feed you free food.

  14. I would be a cute, little puppy because who doesn't love puppies?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I would want to be a penguin because they choose mates for life, and I am very needy. Also, penguins are cute

  16. I would want to be a dog only if I could have my human self as an owner. Their loyalty and cuddleability is undeniably supreme.

  17. I would like to be a black panther because I want to know what if feels like to blend in with your surroundings.

  18. I would like to be a wolf because they’re all about sticking together and watching out for one another, much more so than most species. And, although a lot of people – especially now, at this time of the year – would probably hate me for it, I love the winter and think it’d be really cool (no pun intended) just to run around in the snow and through the forest for a day and not really have to worry about much else…and howl, obviously.

  19. I would want to be a koala. Their lifestyle sounds extremely relaxing. I could just sit in a eucalyptus tree and enjoy the warm dry climate of Australia.

  20. I would want to be a cheetah, since they can run really fast and I've always been kind of bad at running.

  21. Right now, I would probably like to be a black bear because I'd just be waking up from hibernating and would feel really rested. Or it would be fine too if I was still hibernating. A whole 24 hours of sleep would be great.

  22. I would like to be a octopus. I've always loved the water, and octopi can camouflage to blend in to almost any environment. If I were an octopus I'd be able to use 8 tentacles to grab my food, and I could shoot ink at anyone who bothered me.

  23. I would want to be a Tardigrade (aka water bear or moss piglet), a microscopic eight-legged animal that can withstand temperatures from near absolute zero to boiling water, absorb extreme doses of radiation, go without food or water for ten years, and even survive the vacuum of space. Plus they look really cool: http://tvblogs.nationalgeographic.com/files/2014/03/tardigrade_swim.gif

  24. If I could be any animal, I'd probably want to be a panda so I could eat bamboo all day and enjoy looking like an Oreo.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I would want to be a monkey because they seem like they have so much fun when they swing from trees and eat bananas all day!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'd want to be a bird (doesn't really matter what kind) because it would be pretty awesome to be able to fly wherever you want whenever you want

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm going to have to choose cuttlefish. Along with having water jets and being able to swim at ridiculous speeds, they can camouflage almost anywhere and spray ink for protection.

  28. If I could be any animal for a day I would be a sloth. Sloths are given the opportunity to sleep all day in a tree, and I would thoroughly enjoy sleeping all day. They also live such relaxed lives and are never in a rush to get anywhere which would be a nice stress-relieving mechanism.

  29. I would want to be a mantis shrimp for a day because they are very small, but wicked powerful. They are also very colorful and look like a clown, causing their strengths to be underestimated. If I were a mantis shrimp for a day, I would enjoy being cloaked in a rainbow and being able to surprise people with my immense strength.

  30. I would be a cat. I could roam around the house all day and chase mice when I'm bored. I wouldn't have any worries at all and could get comfortable and fall asleep anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I would definitely want to be a dolphin. Not only would I be able to explore the ocean, but I would live a fun and social life and party with my fellow dolphin friends.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I would want to be either a sea or land turtle, not sure which one. I would want to be a sea turtle so I could explore the ocean, especially the Great Barrier Reef, or I would want to be a land turtle in a rainforest becuase rain forests are pretty cool. Turtles always just seem so relaxed and both types seem pretty awesome to me.

  33. I would be a sloth. They are the awesomest animal ever and baby ones are so adorable. I would climb trees like a boss and relax all day. Literally move so slow that like other sloths moss would grow on my furr.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I would be a tortoise, specifically a Galapagos tortoise. They move really slow, mostly because they are super chill and have no worries. hey can live to be over 150 years old and are absolutely massive.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I would be a mantis shrimp because they can see a much larger spectrum of light than humans and I think their view of life would be much more exciting than ours are.

    ReplyDelete
  36. It would be cool to be a king cobra for a day because they're almost 20 feet long, slithering seems fun, and people and other animals would be afraid of my venom.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I would have to choose a lion. They are absolutely beautiful and one of the few social cats. Their hierarchies are intriguing - even if I would end up doing all of the work. However, their unique expression of affection, attachment, and commitment completely captivates me. Besides, having a Jacobsin Organ would be pretty cool...

  38. I would want to be a komodo dragon. It would be interesting being ectothermic and having to regulate my body temperature. They are able to traverse both water and land, can live to be 50 years old, and are able to hunt prey much larger than themselves.
